Roscoè B. Thické III (b. 1981, Miami, FL)

Roscoè B. Thické III is a lens artist. Drawing from his upbringing in Miami, his work grapples with themes such as memory, place, and inheritance. Thické began making images when he took a photography class while stationed in South Korea during his military service. In addition to photography, Thické has also incorporated archival materials, sculpture, and installation into his practice. Thické takes inspiration from everyday objects, including the objects of his childhood; he frequently uses blue Plexiglass, like the kind in his grandmother’s home, dubbing the specific hue “Pork N Bean Blue.” Though he takes inspiration from the past, Thicke’s work is ultimately future-focused, making him part of a long tradition of Black artists whose practices challenge ideas of what is possible.

In addition to a solo show at OSMOS Station in 2024, Thické has shown at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Homework Gallery, Oolite Arts, and the Bass Museum, among others. He is the recipient of a DVCAI Residency in Suriname (2025), a residency at OSMOS Station (2024), and a MASS MoCA Studio Residency (2023). His work has been screened at the Tribeca Film Festival (2023), the New Orleans Film Festival (2023), and DOC NYC (2023).

Thické lives and works in Miami.
